About Henry Scrope, 4th Baron of Bolton
FindaGrave.com show the following information:
Sir Henry Scrope
Birth: 4 Jun 1418; Castle Bolton, Richmondshire District, North Yorkshire, England
Death: 14 Jan 1459
Burial: St Agatha Churchyard, Easby, Richmondshire District, North Yorkshire, England
[Note: FindaGrave.com’s place-name strands are present-day correct, not historically correct. District designations in England didn’t exist until the late 19th century. The “North” in North Yorkshire was how people referred to what part of Yorkshire, but there was no splitting up of Yorkshire rule in the 15th century.]
“4th Baron Scrope of Bolton. His uncle, Sir Richard Neville, had custody of his father's lands until he was of age, as well as rights to his marriage. His mother was made to give a recognizance of £1000 that she would keep him and his brother Richard unmarried, and would bring them before the King and Council at Westminster whenever she was warned, dated Dec. 9, 1420. His father-in-law, John, Lord Scrope of Masham, was given a license to take him in his entourage during his Embassy to the Grand Master of the Order of St John of Jerusalem at Rhodes, dated Jan. 29, 1434/35. On Feb. 2, 1439/40, he was granted full livery of his father's lands, after proving his age. He was summoned to Parliament by writs dated from 1441 until 1455, was a commissioner of the peace for the East and North Ridings of Yorkshire, commissioner of Subsidy Collection and the Court of Oyer and Terminer in the North Riding, as well as a guardian of the Marches for the King. He was sent as a joint-commissioner to treat with Burgundy regarding truce infractions in 1458.”
