The Honorable Lieutenant Colonel Philip Lightfoot
The Honorable Philip Lightfoot came to the colony of Virginia before 1670 from England. He served as a Lieutenant Colonel of Militia and Justice of Gloucester Co., 1680; Justice of James City, 1694-1699; Collector of Customs for Upper James River and Surveyor General. He registered his will in 1708 and died in 1710. His tomb is without date and bears arms "Lightfoot Impaling Corbin." The coats of arms of the Lightfoot and Corbin families are displayed side by side. Philip purchased three tracts of land at Sandy Point along the Chickahominy River, most of which he willed to his sons Francis and then Phillip.
Lt. Col. Philip Lightfoot (1646-1708) was the son of John Lightfoot and Elizabeth (Phillips) Lightfoot. He married Alice (Corbin) Lightfoot on September 28, 1679 in Christ Church, Middlesex, Virginia.
They were the parents of:
- 1) William Lightfoot;
- 2) John Lightfoot;
- 3) Francis Lightfoot;
- 4) Philip W. Lightfoot II.
Philip Lightfoot was born in London about 1646. His mother was Elizabeth Phillips, daughter of Francis Phillips, Esq,, "Auditor of the Exchequer", married January 16, 1626, St Andrews, London, England. Philip's father was John Lightfoot, Esq., son and heir of the Reverend Richard Lightfoot and his wife Jane (Mary) Aske married in London February 7,1593/4. John and Elizabeth had 8 sons and 5 daughters.
Phillip Lightfoot was Baptized January 28, 1663 at St. Sepulchre, Holborn, London, England. He was christened January 28, 1663 at St. Sepulchre Newgate, City of London, England, United Kingdom.
He owned property in Virginia, British Colonial America. He was a Colonel in the Army of Virginia.
He married Alice Catherine Lightfoot (born Corbin) September 28, 1679 in Gloucester, Virginia.

In 1671, Philip Lightfoot was a resident of Gloucester County, Virginia. He appears to have been a lieutenant in his majesty's Royal navy in the 1600's. He was called "Mr" in 1677, lieutenant-colonel in 1680.
Philip Lightfoot left a Will dated 1708 and was buried at Sandy Point, Virginia.
