About Hugh O'Pry, Sr.
As records of our family tree listed in the Genealogy book researched by Daisy O'Pry Shockley, and printed by Henry Clay O'Pry IV, President of Southeastern Color Lithographers, Athens, Ga., Hugh O'Pry I, was born in Ireland and was the only living child of Richard and Janet O'Prey (McShane).
Hugh served as a Petit Juror for the Parish of Prince Frederick, South Carolina in 1778-79 and again in 1783. He served as a Sergeant in the Revolutionary War under General Marion during 1782. On May 1785 he was issued two pounds, seventeen shillings, a penny, half penny and sterling for 32 days Militia Duty .
In 1799 he made a will to his sons, Robert I, Hugh II, and daughter Agnes, and his wife Elizabeth. He was listed in a bill of sale that he made to John Teasdale pertaining to the same slaves he had left to his children, January 4, 1800 These Court of Equity papers, a total of 100 pieces from the Sumter Courthouse, revealed his death in 1803, as well as the existence of our maternal grandfather, Greshom Benbow I.

In 1799, he made a will to his sons, Robert I, Hugh II, and daughter Agness, and wife, Elizabeth. He was listed in a bill of sale that he is supposed to have made to John Teasdale pertaining to the same infomration he listed to his children, on January 4, 1800 when it was probated.
