About Hugh Ross, 4th Lord of Balnagown
http://www.greatclanross.org/htext6.html
Hugh Ross, the son of Walter Ross and Katherine McTyre, became the fourth Laird of Balnagowan and Chief of Clan Ross in 1412.
He is said to have married the daughter of the Earl of Sutherland, and had as issue four sons: (1) John, the fifth laird; (2) Hugh, about whom little is known; (3) William Ross of Meikle Allan, who became the first laird of Shandwick from whom Sheriff Charles Campbell Ross traced his descent; and (4) Rev. Thomas Ross, who became the Rector of the Collegiate Church of Tain.

read, in particular, about Hugh Ross, 1st of Ba;nagown: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_Ross#15th_century_and_clan_confl...
"Hugh Ross of Rariches (1st of Balnagown), who was granted a charter, in 1374, for the lands of Balnagowan.[6] The earldom of Ross passed through a female line, and that later led to dispute between two rival claimants"
This passing of title through the female line might complicate understanding of the Ross family tree
