472 Isabel Countess of Devon, late the wife of Thomas Bourghchier, the elder, knight, and sometime the wife of Humphrey Stafford, Knight, Earl of Devon 5 Henry VII IPM E 150/339/3 22 August 1489 - 21 Aug 1490 at Gloucester, Herefordshire By deed dated 20 Jan., 35 Hen. VI, Henry Quarell and Hugh Shelwik demised the under-mentioned manors and lands to John Barre, knt., and Joan his wife, with remainders over (as in No. 7): and the said John and Joan received the King’s pardon for thus acquiring the premises, by letters patent, 27 Jan., 11 Edw. IV. On the death of the said Joan, who survived the said John, the said Thomas Bourgchier and Isabel his wife, Countess of Devon, daughter and heiress of the said John Barre, by his first wife Idonia, entered into and were seised of the said manors and lands in fee tail, in her right, by virtue of the above remainder; and by letters patent, 12 Dec., 1 Hen. VII, they obtained the King’s pardon for such entry. She had issue by the said Thomas a daughter, Isabel, who predeceased her. She died 1 March, 4 Hen. VII, leaving the said Thomas her husband surviving, seised of the said manors and lands for the term of his life, as tenant by the curtesy, with reversion to her cousins and heirs, who are also cousins and heirs of the said John Barre, knt., her father, viz. Edmund Cornewaile, knt., aged 30 and more, son of Thomas, son of Elizabeth, sister of the said John Barre; Richard Delabere, knt., aged 40 and more, son of Joan, another such sister; and William Hanmere, esq., aged 44 and more, son of Ancret, another such sister. Cf. No. 684. Manor of Clehungre, worth 10 marks, held of Thomas, Bishop of Hereford, service unknown. Manor of Merecourt, worth 40s., held of the said Bishop, service unknown. Manor of Tadyngton, worth 10 marks, held of the King in chief, by service of 1/2 of a knight’s fee. Manor of Burcote in Hereford, worth 4 marks, held of the said Bishop, by fealty and 18s. yearly rent, for all service. Manor of Bolynghope, worth 20s., held of the King, by service of 1/2 of a knight’s fee. Manor of Lertport, worth 5l., held of the Prior of Little Malvern, by fealty and 2s. yearly rent, for all service. Manor of Chekkeley, worth 4 marks, held of Joan Devereux, widow, late the wife of Walter Devereux, knt., Lord de Ferrers, as of the honor of Webley, by knight-service. Two messuages, 12 tofts, 50a. land, 10a. meadow, 10a. wood, 20a. pasture, and 10s. rent in Merecourt, Arkeston, and Kyngeston, worth 4 marks, held of the said Bishop, service unknown. Six messuages, 12 tofts, 250a. land, 12a. meadow, 40a. wood, 40a. pasture, and 30s. rent in Burcote in Hereford, Chekkeley, Mordyford, Maynston, Clehungre, Tadyngton, Lertport, Stokburgg, and Sholl, worth 40s., held of the said Bishop, John Hertlond, and John Southerne, service unknown.
