28 May 1679: Upon the petition of Mrs. Grace administration: granted to her on Kay estate, bringing inventory and giveing: security.

Grace Key/Keyes/Kay of Westmoreland Co., Va., widow. Henry Bonner signed note to her for 800 lbs. tobacco in Apr. 1680, payment due Oct. 1680. Suit on the note. Judgment for Grace. Source: Charles Co., Md. Court and Land Records, Liber I, pp. 55, 65, 92-3, 121.

It doth appeare on record that in consideration 'of a marriadge to be had and solemnized between Mr. James Kay and Mrs. Grace Ashton, Kay did by instrument as on record acknowledge to pay all remaining comes of money that were due by Grace Ashton to Thomas Boyce for a tract of land bought by Grace of Boyce. The deede was by Kay since marriadge acknowledged in Court. Grace Ashton alias Kay did make it appeare to this Court that there is £70 sterling money due and yet unpaid for the land. The Court doth grant judgment to Mrs. Grace Ashton alias Kay for £ 70 sterling out of Ja: Kay's estate.

11 Dec. 1678: There was a difference depending the last Court between Robt. Readman, carpenter, and Mr. Ja: Kay who married the relict and administratrix of Capt. Jno: Ashton about building as per contract with Ashton and for severall other works do. by Readman by or:r of the relict and l:r. Ja: Kay. Kay did desire that the worke might be veiwed and adjudged by workmen. Court did appoint Geo: Hales and Originall Browne to veiw the same who have given in their report. It appeareing to this Court that James Kay stands indebted to Readman for worke don 7440 pounds of tobacco, the Court doth order that James Kay make payment.
