About James Oliver

James was born in 1805. James Oliver came to New Plymouth with his family by the "Amelia Thompson", arriving on September 3rd, 1841. Aboard the ship were 187 Devonshire emigrants, having sailed from London 25 March 1841 and arrived 5½ months later, with a call at Salvador, Bahia, Brazil for four days. Along with his wife Ruth, were his children Mary 16, a Domestic Servant, John 11 , William 9 , Samuel 8 , Matilda 4 who died July 19th from consumption unwell when taken on board , and Francis 11 months.
