About Jane Jean Sellards (Bevard)
Notes from Pam Wilson, Geni Curator:
From what I can see there is very little certainty as to who the wife of Hezekiah Sellards was. Speculation that she was a Brevard is given weight by the naming of a child with that middle name. However, I believe it is unlikely that she was the daughter of immigrant John/Jean Brevard, who died around age 60 within a year or two of her birth. If she was a Brevard, then perhaps she was more likely his granddaughter. Also, she may have been conceived out of wedlock. More research and documentation is needed.
Additional Curator's Notes:
I have seen the surname spelled Brevard and Brevart. The first spelling is more commonly used. There are rumors that she was part Indian (Cherokee) but no proof of this has been found. It is more likely that she was the daughter of John (Jean) Brevart, and granddaughter of Huguenot immigrants who came to the New World by way of Ireland. Maria Edmonds-Zediker, curator, 07/22/2011

1. Hezekiah3 Sellards (Peter John2, Peter John1) was born 1732 in Ulster, Ireland, and died Unknown in Virginia. He married Jean Brevart Abt. 1752, daughter of John Brevart and Wife Brevart. She was born Abt. 1734 in Maryland, and died Unknown.
The story that she was a Cherokee Indian has never been verified. Where she and Hezekiah were married is unknown.
She may have been the sister of Adam Brevard, a son of John Brevard, born in 1716 in Maryland, later migrating to North Carolina, and grandson of Jean Brevard, a French Hugenot, who migrated from France to Ulster, Ireland, then to Maryland.
