John Hamilton of Eldershaw died intestate in June 1703. On 12 June 1704 his testament dative and inventory was given up by Alexander Bertram, and William Bertram, elder and younger of Nisbet, tutors nominate to William Hamilton and Hellan Hamilton, children of John Hamilton of Eldershaw: "and othr children that should happen to be procreat betwixt him and Jean Bertrame his spouse conforme to his nominatione made thranent dated the first day of may jajvijc and one year." Confirmation was granted to Alexander Bertram and William Bertram, elder and younger of Nisbet, on 12 June 1704.
