BIO: According to Dictionnaire généalogique des familles acadiennes, Jean Doucet was born about 1665, likely in Port Royal, Acadia, as the son of Pierre Doucet and Henriette Pelletret. In about 1692 he married Francoise Blanchard, the daughter of Martin Blanchard and Francoise LeBlanc and settled in Les Mines. In the summer of 1714, Jean visited Île Royale (Prince Edward Island) and then received permission to settle there. His apparently widowed wife is listed on the 1752 census of Rivière-du-Nord-Est, Île St-Jean, with her daughter Claire and her husband, Amand Bugeaud. Children of Jean Doucet & Francoise Blanchard:*Madeleine (~1693- ); m. Claude Landry (Claude & Catherine Thibodeau) 8 Feb 1712 in Grand Pré.(SGA-1,3)*Marie-Josephe (~1694-1767); m. Francois Landry (Antoine & Marie Thibodeau) 27 May 1711 in Grand Pré.(SGA-1,51)*Jean (bef. 1701- ); m. Isabelle Hebert (Jacques & Marguerite Landry) 23 Jan 1726 in Grand Pré. Louis-Amand Bugeaud (Alain & Elisabeth Melanson) 19 Dec 1730 in Grand Pré.(SGA-2,217)In some family trees, he is called Jean Claude Doucet and shown as dying in Port Royal / Annapolis Royal in 1754, but this is Claude Doucet, the son of Germain Doucet (~1641- bef. 1698) and Marie Landry (~1646- ). I have found no indication of him using the name Claude.

Biography
Jean Doucet was born about 1665 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, son of Pierre Doucet (abt. 1621–1713) and Henriette Pelletret (abt. 1641–bef. 1694).[1]
He was listed as age 6 in 1671 census[2]
Presumably, he was one of 5 boys in 1678 census[3]
In 1686, at Port Royal, Jean, aged 20, was living with his parents, Pierre DOUCET, aged 55 [recte 65], and Henriette PELTRET [sic], aged 40, and his eight siblings: Toussaints [sic], aged 23, Pierre, aged 18, Magdelaine [sic], aged 16, Louis, aged 12, Jeanne [recte Louise], aged 10, Pierre [recte Rene], aged 8, Marguerite, aged 6, and Mathieu, aged 1. The family owned 2 guns and was living on 5 arpents of cultivable land with 8 cattle, 12 sheep, and 6 hogs.[4]
Jean married Françoise Blanchard (born in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France; daughter of Martin Blanchard and Françoise LeBlanc) around 1692 in Acadie.[1]
Their children were:[1]
Madeleine Doucet (about 1693–after 1756) .
Marie Josephe Doucet (about 1694–1767) .
Jean Doucet (before 1701– ) .
Unknown son born before 1707 census
Françoise Doucet (about 1705–1799) .
Marguerite Doucet (1708– ) .
Claire Doucet (about 1712– )
In the 1693 census at Les Mines, Jean and Françoise were counted with their daughter Madeleine (4 months), and one servant.[5] In the 1701 census in Grand-Pré, the census taker did not indicate the correct number of children as noted by Stephen White. He counted two boys and one girl. The children who were likely in the household at that time were Madeleine (born around 1693), Marie-Josèphe (born around 1694) and Jean (born before 1701).[6] They appeared in the subsequent censuses at Les Mines in 1703,[7] 1707[8] and 1714.[9]
25 Jun 1714: Jean Doucet from Les Mines was among the inhabitants of Acadia who went with Father Gaulin to view land on Île Royale.[1]
25 Aug 1714: in a letter from L'Hermite at Louisbourg, Jean Doucet from Les Mines received permission "to settle on Ile-Royale at the good pleasure of the King."[1]
He died before the La Roque census of 1752 taken on Ile Saint-Jean in which his wife is living with their daughter Claire and her family. Jean is not mentioned.
Research Notes
Notes by Stephen White in his Dictionnaire p. 539 concerning the censuses:[1]
In the 1701 census, the number of boys and girls are incorrect.
In the 1703 census, the children were omitted.
In the 1707 census transcriptions, 1 girl younger than 12 was omitted.
