Jean Gélineau devenu Gellyna, Gélina puis Gélinas, ancêtre des Bellamare (prononcé Bellemore) et des Lacourse
The general census of New-France for 1666 denotes Etienne and Jean Gellineau as living in Trois-Rivieres. The census for 1681 denotes Jean Gellineau and family living at Cap-de-la-Madeleine, owning a gun, six head of cattle and working four arpents of land. Ending a contract for farming employment with Nicolas Gastineau-Duplessis, a pioneer of the Trois-Rivieres region, in 1677, Etienne and Jean went their separate ways, with Jean and his family settling a piece of land near Lake Saint-Paul, on the south bank of the Saint-Lawrence across from Cap-de-la-Madeleine; Etienne agreed to serve seigneur Charles LeGardeur de Villiers at l'Arbre-de-la-Croix in exchange for food and lodging, until meeting the widow of Sebastien Langlier five years later (source: "Your Ancient Canadian Family Ties", FCGSC Library).

GEDCOM Note
On17 October 1667, a the home of notary Jacques de La Tousche, Jean and his future wife Françoise Charlemesnil (she was born at Saint-Maclou in Rouen, daughter of Robert and of Marie Denise) sign a marriage contract in front of the notary. The nuptial ceremony took place at Cap-de-la-Madeleine a short time later, but a record of this act has been lost. [Tanguay (Vol. 4 Sect. 1 : Fab-Gle, Pg. 230 ) has this marriage as 1670 but errors in the original works are known to occur] .
By this act, they are at the origin of all the descendants Gélinas, Bellemare and Lacourse in America. Their three sons, Étienne, Jean-Baptiste and Pierre will settle in Yamachiche, where they will be a foundation. Étienne keeps the name of Gélinas, the surname used by his father Jean in Nouvelle-France; Jean-Baptiste will be the source of Bellemare, and Pierre that of Lacourse.
