“John Welty was an 'elder'(deacon) in the Mennonite Church. On 14 May 1775, a tripartite indentureand agreement was made: Michael Danner Sr. of Hanover, John Shenck ofManheim, and Jacob Keagy of Heidelberg, ministers of the Mennonites, 'ofthe first part;' John Welty and James Miller and Adam Eichelberger of thethird part, agreed to give land in trust for use by the Mennonites. Thissite became known as 'Bair's Meeting House,' which is about three mileseast of Hanover, Pennsylvania." [281]
