About John Brockett of Mackery End
Additional Curator's Notes:
There were two Brocket families livng in the same neighborhood (Wheathampstead Parish) at the same time (late 1500's-early 1600's), both with sons named John. Both families are descended from John Brockett of Brockett Hall, who was knighted by Elizabeth I. One family is known as "of the street," because the location of their home was on one of the main streets in Wheathampstead. The other family is is known as "of Mackery End," a hamlet a short distance outside of town.

====================================
John Brocket of Mackery End was the son of Nicholas Brocket, Esq., of Mackery End, and wife Margaret Hoo. He was born probably in January 1562 and was christened at Wheathampstead church on January 14, 1562. He married Mary Snagg of Mackery End and they had three known children. He died at Wheathampstead and was buried in the churchyard on November 5, 1649. He left a will, proven in 1649, by which we learn the names of his children.
Children of John Brocket of Mackery End and wife Mary Snagg:
- Thomas Brocket (Mackery End) christened 8 October 1584
- Ann Brocket (Mackery End) christened 2 March 1585 and buried 22 March 1586
- John Brocket was the eldest child, christened 24 July 1583 at Wheathampsted and married twice, 1) to Joan Lacon about 1608. Joan died in 1621 and he then married 2) Elizabeth Mordant on 8 July 1624 at Oakely, Bedfordshire.
