Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ellis-15451

John Ellis was born about 1685. He was the son of John Ellis. He passed away after 1749.

"John, the eldest son, married Elizabeth Ware, a relation of Baldwin and Ware Rockett, seafaring men, who owned the property in the city of Richmond since called "Rockette". He was a magistrate and sheriff of Henrico. His eldest son, who was also named John, inherited the family residence, and lived in it during his life. It still belongs to the family of one of his grand-daughters, who married John Bowles,of Louisa county. The land on which it is situated was patented to William Glover, April 28, 1691, and by him sold to John Ellis (the first second) for two thousand pounds of tobacco." (This written in 1857 by Thomas Ellis of Richmond).

The John Ellis who was son of John Ellis inherited land from his father John Ellis, who had apparently specified in his will the various allotments to his sons. John as first born had to gift his brothers though the will had specified acreage.
