About John Grewell, (III?)
brief biography
John Grewell (or Gruwell) was born c.1685. His place of birth is not known. It is believed that he arrived in America about 1700. He is found living in Delaware by 1710, when he marries Mary Cook. John died January 24, 1733/34 in Little Creek, Kent County, Delaware. He named his homestead "Aberdeen," which suggests a Scottish heritage.
family
They had seven children.
notes
The spelling Grewell and Gruwell were used interchangeably during this era. This John is not proven to have a Scottish heritage. One source claims that he was born in France as Jean Grouvelle, and was a Huguenot seeking refuge, however no one of the spelling Gruelle, Grewell or Gruwell has been found on the logs of those ships bringing Huguenots to America.
comments
Date and place of marriage have also been (erroneously?) reported to be 1709 in Kent County, Delaware.
