John married Agnes SCOTT on 11 January 1821 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland and they had the following children

• 1824 Frances
• 1828 Margaret
• 1832 William Scott

In the 1881 Scotland Census John is living with his daughter Frances.

John died 7 October 1881 at Muirkirk, Ayrshire, Scotland
