About John Mayers
John was born in Drumore Twp., Lancaster County, PA. and moved as a young boy to Bart (now Eden) Twp., Lancaster County, PA. where his parents had inherited land.
Shortly after his marriage to Barbara Brown, he bought a farm in Strasburg Twp. to the south of White Oak Rd. and just a few miles from his parents. There he and Barbara raised their family of 6 sons, Abraham, John M., Benjamin B., Isaac B., Frederick B. and David; and 3 daughters, Elizabeth, Susanna and Frances better known as Fanny.
When he wasn't farming, he made post and rail fences. He was a Mennonite and attended the New Providence Mennonite Meeting House not far from his home.
