John Nauku

I have my private thoughts about this second marriage with this loyal Hawaiian. I am guessing with no real proof that this may have been a classic and ancient Kanaka Maoli marriage for ali'i chiefesss protection/privacy... from the hard times that came to the kanaka with the economic, political dynamics/challenges of the encroaching.... Occidental world.

Wondering what other cousins might know, have.../ /

Language research, despite dad's orders to me... not to learn Hawaiian while I did the genealogy....reveals some understandings I am only aware of at this time....4 September 2016.

Hypothesis that Alika Jr. and sister Kahinu mated may be incorrect. Alika Jr., may have been my line's biological uncle and the alternate mo'olelo on my charts might have been correct- that my great great great grandfather may have actually been John Nauku.

This is a shock for me at this late date in my life, but this is why we research and share with cousins, right? No one has a lock on truth besides God Almighty and Jesus.

What I learned suggests that great great great grandpa Alika Jr. was such to my line only as all brothers and sisters "claimed" their respective keiki as their keiki as well. Something we may feel today, but do not claim for future generations.

The purpose: To bind the keiki from all siblings' lines closer even after the original siblings died. To ensure that they had aloha for each other even into the future and were there for each other even if it might just be to hug, commiserate, and encourage.

This shocking awareness is still too new for me. What I discovered is going to be kept secret for awhile. Until I am more comfortable with what I have learned.

Furthermore, they might have been full siblings as the Mahele document suggests, but again....because of Kanaka Maoli practices and thinking...there seems to be more evidence that they were half-siblings- same mother but different fathers.

Again, I am a mite dazed by this kind of finding/research/awareness. Nuff, for now. Lptm
