John Rowland II was born about 1614. He is reputed to have immigrated to James City Co., Virginia aboard the vessel Dorchester, according to the ships manifest, in 1635 at the age of 21. He married / was married to Margaret Bailey (Bayly), the daughter of Lewis Bailey. He settled in the James City Co., Virginia area (which was called New Kent until 1734) probably across the river. James City County across the river became Surry County. In 1652 he is believed to have worked for his brother-in-law, one John White, who was merchant / shipping business. He is reputed to have returned to England and died in Jamestown, James City County, VA in 1653.
