John Whiting was a merchant/landowner in Boston, Lincolnshire and was the town Mayor in 1600 and 1608. Information about his wives is fragmentary, but they may have included Margaret Bonner, Faith and Isabel.

John Whiting's children included: Isabel Whiting (1587 - 1602) Audrey Whiting (1589 - ) John Whiting (1592 - ) Margaret Whiting (1594 - ) Rev. Samuel Whiting (1597 - 1679) James Whiting (1599 - 1648)

In his will, John Whiting left a bequest to Rev. John Cotton, the parish priest of St. Botolph's Church, Boston and a prominent local Puritan. Rev. John Cotton (1585 – 1652) went on to become the preeminent minister and theologian of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
