Meriet of Meriet by B. W. Greenfield 1883 p. 112 That John de Meriet was his son and nearest heir, but of whose age the jury was ignorant as he was not born in these parts; that the total annual value of the Manor of Castle Carlton was 70 pounds 13 shillings 7 3/4 pence [all manors together were over 146 pounds. [otherwise stated as 2 April 1276] p. 116-7. John de Meriet died in the early part of 1308, and by the Inquisition Post Mortem on his death, taken at Meriet, 27 March 1308, it was found that John de Meriet, his heir was on Wednesday next after the Feast of St Michael, IE II 94 October 1307) of the age of ten years.; consequently, his son and heir was born on the 4th October 1297 [Inq. p.m. of Johannes dominus de Meriet, 1 E. II. no 62.] [much damaged]
