Emigrated from England to Philadelphia, PA on the ship "Welcome" with William Penn in 1682; granted 15000 acres in PA by Penn.
He and a Robert Lucas were bonded to several Bucks Co, PA persons to care for a Henry Comly, orphan of Henry Comly, 14 Feb 1687; purchased 500 acres for £35 (current money) in Bucks Co, PA from Thomas Atkinson, which was patented 19 Jun 1687. •Text: pp. 11-13
Marriage intent to Phebe Blackshaw 7 Dec 1687 at the Falls MM, Bucks Co, but he had to get a clearness certificate from NJ (where his principal residence was at the time) 7 Mar 1688.
In 13 Oct 1697 Falls MM ordered 10 Friends to "hear and end differences between Joseph Kirkbride and Peter Webster and their wives"; 5 Apr 1699 he and Stephen Beakes announced their intention of going to England to visit Friends (Joseph's wife concurred), and returned to the colonies later that year.
Received at Falls MM, Bucks Co, PA on certificate from Pardsey Cragg MM, England, (probably in Cumberlandshire) dated 7 Aug 1700; more or less of Falls twp, Bucks Co, PA at time of his marriages; yeoman; he must have returned to England and back to Bucks Co from a MM in Cheshire 6 Dec 1705.
Called to account in Sep 1708 by Falls MM for engaging in real estate speculation at the time of a religious visit to England; a Daniel Jackson was disowned by Middletown MM "for having spoken some things scandalous and unchristian like against Joseph".
Member of the first PA assembly 1712-1720, and justice of the courts of Bucks Co, PA 1708-1726; one of the largest landowners there and in NJ, with about 13,000 acres at the time of his death.

At his wedding to Sarah Stacy, among the witnesses were Sarah (Sarah Stacy Kirkbride), Matthew (son by Phebe Blackshaw), Jane, and Thomas Kirkbride. Also at his wedding to Mary Yardley, among the witnesses were Mary (Mary Yardley Kirkbride), Mathew (son by Phebe Blackshaw), Thomas (son of his brother John), Jean, Joseph Jr. (son by Phebe Blackshaw), Phebe (eldest child by Phebe Blackshaw), and Martha (daughter by Phebe Blackshaw) Kirkbride.
So who was Jane/Jean Kirkbride?
It is interesting to note that at Joseph's marriage to Mary Yardley, Sarah Stacy's parents and a younger sister, Ruth, were present.

Co. 1666 acres in Hunterdon County, N.J. and my part of tract of land on Morris River in Salem Co., N.J. held in partnership with heirs of Thomas Lambert and William Biles. 3 sons Joseph, Mahlon, and John, 6052 acres at Suckasunning, Hunterdon Co. Son Mahlon, 650 acres in Hunterdon Co. afsd. at Grat Bog Meadow, surveyed by me in company with Thomas Lambert and John Reading. Son John, plantation on which I live (wife Mary 1/2 int. therein during life) also plantation in possession of James Gray, bought of James Sutton, Ruth Hulme, and Thomas Pugh, 528 acres also tract of 900 acres in New Britain bought of John Sotcher. Also, 340 acres in Makefield in Tenor of John and James Siddal. Son-in- law Thomas Marriott, 1250 acres in Hunterdon Co., N.J. on Delaware River near Limestone Falls. Cousins Thomas Kirkbride (£40) and Joseph Kirkbride (£10). Wife Mary all the residue of Real estate including tract in Jersey on South Branch of Raritan River bought of John Budd and William Bidle. To Son Joseph and Dau. Sarah, Liberty lands and Lotts in Phila. share and share alike. Son Joseph to sell interest in partnership land on Morris River and put £100 at interest towards raising a Fund toward maintaining a Free School at or near Falls Meeting House. Wit: John Hutchinson and John Beaumont.
