-------------------------------------------
Changed the name of his 6 and up children from TROLLOP to TROLLIP. Trollip has now become the standard spelling.
The TROLLIPS, when they arrived with the settlers, were located on the Reed River about 6 miles inland from Port Alfred. Joseph named his farm "Standerwick" after his home village near Frome but the Deeds Office erroneously recorded it "Standerwig". Joseph and his sons helped to clear the "Chapel in the Woods" where Methodist services were held in this open air tabernacle. Services were held regularly at "Standerwick" and Jeremiah GOLDSWAIN and Eliza DEBNAM (of Frome) were married there 21.10.1822. As three of the TROLLIP sons were over 18 they were also entitled to allotments so the TROLLIP family were given four separate grants. In 1826 Joseph TROLLIP stood security for the sum of £600 for a Government schooner bought by Christopher MACAY. He also owned much property in Grahamstown and the Rev. William SHAW lived in one of his houses.
