Notes

  • Cresson died in 1690 at Harlem, New York County, New York. There was a Joshua Cresson living at North Branck, NJ. He was named in the will of Abraham LaRue in 1702 in 1720.
  • Much of the Info on the early members of the Creson [Cresson] family was gathered by Mrs. Delfa Wright Ellis and published in "Ancestry of William Henry Wright and wife Polly Ann Royal and Their Descendants, " 1991, pp. 283-292.
  • Joshua Cresson, Jr. may have left New Jersey and moved to the Huguenot settlement in Virginia. The tithable list for King William Parish, Virginia, 1723-24 has the name Joshua Coroson (Cresson?) (see Virginia Colonial Records, Vol. IV, p. 520). He is also reported to be the 1749 tithable list for Augusta County, VA (unverified by Mrs. Ellis).

Not sure when the spelling change came. They were "Creson" (with emphasis on both syllables "Cree sawn"), but I read somewhere, the earlier Joshua liked to spell it with the 2 ss, "Cresson".
