About Judge Nichodemus Keith

"I am primarily interested in this person because I share a siginificant autosomal DNA match with a descendant. Margaret Borden, the wife of Nicodemus b. ~1755, had many connections with the Cloyd and Campbell families of Buffalo Creek, Rockbridge County, Virginia, ancestors of another individual sharing a fractional portion of this same segment. In context, I currently think it is most likely that Nicodemus was the son or grandson of a member of the extended family of John Campbell and Grace Hay, both born ~1680 in Ireland and who left many descendants in the old Augusta and Rockbridge County areas, especially around Buffalo Creek on the southern border of the old Borden Tract, staked by Margaret Borden's grandfather, Benjamin.

I am aware that there is a long-standing oral tradition that Nicodemus, or his supposed father William, were born in Ireland. Most likely there is a grain of truth to that story, but as it appears to lack a documentary basis, and to my mind the observed pattern of autosomal DNA matches best supports a slightly earlier arrival in America, I have assumed that Nicodemus was born in Virginia." ~ 6 February 2017 Jack Mason
