A Question of Names
«i»Genealogy of Page Family' «/i»by Richard Channing Moore Page p 255, concluded that Thomas' wife was Judith Churchill as a letter from a Randolph descendant-a Mrs Ellen Wayles Randolph Harrison states her name as Churchill & that no connection between the Flemings & Randolphs takes place until Mary Randolph & Tarlton Fleming (our line). Also, Richard Randolph also believed this to be true. However, John Randolph of Roanoke thought her to be Judith Fleming & Brownings: «i»'Americans of Royal Descent'«/i» p 298 names her as Fleming. Also, in «i»'History of Bristol Parish«/i»' p 214, Rev. P. Slaughter, says she was Miss Fleming. And in 'Pioneers & Planters' by Parke Rouse Jr., a lineage chart names Thomas Fleming marrying Judith Fleming, dtr of Charles Fleming & his wife: Susanna Tarlton. (Railey states that Thomas married both a Judith Churchill and Judith Fleming?).
-----------------------------------------
Her Name is Judith Fleming Anderson states Pp 7-9: The old «i»Parish Register of St. Peters Parish, New Kent County: «/i» "Thomas Randolph of Henrico and Judith Fleming was married Octo ye 16th 1720." Extract from Marriage Settlement between Nicholas Davies and Judith Fleming Randolph... These and other documentations "speak for themselves"..and constitute a definite and official record that Judith Fleming was the widow of Thomas Randolph of Tuckahoe and after his death had married Nicholas Davies... A most careful investigation of the records of Middlesex County and Christ Church Parish shows no mention of Col. Wm. Churchill ever having had...a daughter named Judith...These facts...definitely establish that the family tradition about Judith Churchill is wrong and that «u»the ancestress of the Tuckahoe Randolphs is Judith Fleming. «/u» --------------------------------- At her 2nd marr. to Nicholas Davies-"John & Tarlton Fleming were trustees, dated Dec. 24, 1733-recorded in Goochland".
