About Louise Mauger
Louise Mauger (1598 – March 1690) was one of the pioneers in Montreal. Mauger was born abt 1598 in St-Martin d'Igé, ev. Sees, Perche, France and married to Pierre Gadoys (1594–1667) before September 15, 1628 in France. Three of their children are known to us: Roberte (1621–1716) who in 1650 married the pioneer Louis Prud’homme: Pierre (1632–1714), born in France, died at Montreal; and Jean-Baptiste (1641–1728) born at Quebec City, died at Montreal; both the sons were gunsmiths. Their descendants have survived to the present day. Louise Mauger was buried on March 18, 1690 in Montreal. Without naming her, the Fermière Monument (Montreal) is an homage to Louise Mauger. She is depicted as a market gardener of the 17th century.

Louise Mauger was born in France in 1598. She is from the St. Martin Parish Ige located in the diocese of Sees and the former province of Perche. [9] [10] [11] [12]
She married Pierre Gadois, also a native of Ige in France before 15 September 1628. [9] [13] [14]
She migrated to Canada in 1635 with her husband and children Roberta and Peter. They are joined Canada in 1641 with his sister Françoise Gadois, her husband and their children Godé Nicolas François, Nicolas, and Mathurine Françoise. [15] [16] [17] It is mentioned for the first time December 2, 1636 in Quebec City at the baptism of his son Francis. [15]
He arrived in the new country, the family settled in Sillery near Quebec City to the west. [18] The family then moved to Montreal to it definitively established in 1648. [18]
The family of Louise and Pierre Mauger Gadois and included in the lists of Montreal for the 1666 and 1667 censuses:
1666 - Pierre Gadois the eldest, 72, inhabitant; Louise Moger, 68, his wife; Jean-Baptiste, 25, gunsmith; Pierre Villeneuve, 25, hired servant. [19] 1667 - Pierre Gadoys, 65; Louise Mauger, his wife, 65; Pierre Villeneuve, domestic, 24; 6 cattle, 40 acres under cultivation. [20] She was buried March 18, 1690 in Montreal. [21]

On Their arrival in Canada in 1635, the first family Lived to Sillery, the settlement time immediately to the west of Quebec. [18] [26] [17] The family Then Moved to Montreal Definitively settling there in 1648. [18]

Louise Mauger est née en France vers 1598. Elle est originaire de la paroisse Saint-Martin d'Igé située dans le diocèse de Sées et l'ancienne province du Perche.[9][10][11][12]
Elle épousa Pierre Gadois, aussi originaire d’Igé, en France avant le 15 septembre 1628.[9][13][14]
Elle migre vers Canada vers 1635 avec son époux et leurs enfants Roberte et Pierre. Ceux-ci sont rejoints au Canada en 1641 par sa belle-sœur Françoise Gadois, son époux Nicolas Godé et leurs enfants François, Nicolas, Mathurine et Françoise.[15][16][17] Il est mentionné pour la première fois le 2 décembre 1636 à Québec lors du baptême de son fils François.[15]
A son arrivée au nouveau pays, la famille s’installe à Sillery en banlieue de Québec vers l'ouest.[18] La famille a ensuite déménagé à Montréal pour s'y 'implanté définitivement en 1648.[18]
La famille de Louise Mauger et Pierre Gadois figure ainsi dans les énumérations de pour Montréal des recensements de 1666 et 1667:
1666 - Pierre Gadois l'ainé, 72, habitant ; Louise Moger, 68, sa femme ; Jean-Baptiste, 25, arquebusier ; Pierre Villeneuve, 25, domestique engagé.[19] 1667 - Pierre Gadoys, 65 ; Louise Mauger, sa femme, 65 ; Pierre Villeneuve, domestique, 24 ; 6 bestiaux, 40 arpents en valeur.[20] Elle fut inhumé le 18 mars 1690 à Montréal.[21]
