Biography
Joseph Snow was the 2nd son and 4th child of Nicholas Snow and Mayflower passenger Constance Hopkins Snow.
He was born at their home in Plymouth, Plymouth colony, New England (Massachusetts),
well before the family moved to Cape Cod and settled in Eastham (Barnstable County) ca. 1645.
Joseph worked the family farm and was a yeoman farmer. It is possible
he had a first wife named [%28Unknown%29 Rogers] but no local records
have yet been found to substantiate that claim.[1]
Eventually, in 1670, when Joseph was 35 years old,
he married an 18 year old local girl: Mary Higgins, 17 years his junior
(b. Sept. 27, 1652).
They had 11 children (5 sons; 6 daughters) between November 1671 and November 1694.
Joseph Snow was mentioned in his father's 1676 will as follows:
"To my son Joseph Snow, I Give that other third parte
of my Great lott att Satuckett; and two acrees and an halfe
of meddow lying att Namscekett neare the head and an Necke
of upland lying between it lying on the westsyde of Willam Twinings,
all this abovesaid land and meddow I Give to my son Joseph Snow
and to his heires Lawfully begotten of his body forever."[2]
Joseph Snow was named Lieutenant of the military company
at Eastham, Plymouth Colony, on October 2, 1689. In the "History of Eastham," p.48,
it is stated: "In 1691, Thomas Smith and Joseph Snow were appointed
a committee to take charge of the Commons." Ibid, p103: "In 1693-5,
Thomas Smith was Representative to the General Court at Boston."
Joseph Snow's will was dated 23 Nov. 1717.
He appointed his son James as executor.
He named sons Benjamin, Stephen, James, and Josiah;
grandsons Nathaniel and Joseph Snow; daughters and grand-daughters
Sarah Young, Lydia Lincoln, Ruth Brown, Rebecca Snow and Rebecca Hamilton;
and his wife Mary.
Inventory was taken 1 February 1722-23. Since James Snow had died before his father,
widow Mary Snow and son Josiah were named administrators on 30 January 1722-23.[3]

GENEALOGY NOTE
Some genealogists question Joseph Snow's marriage record;
possibly because, so far as official records show, he did not marry
Mary Higgins until he was 35, very old for that era.
Thus, he is credited with having married a woman named (Unknown) Rogers before 1670.
Other accounts have him married to an "Elizabeth Smith" in ??
and/or a "Hannah Storrs" or a "Mary Storrs." Certain sources also contest
his wife "Mary" as being the daughter of Richard Higgins & Mary Yates,
both early Plymouth colony settlers & Eastham residents.
It has also been said that Joseph's wife Mary Higgins (or Mary Unknown),
whom he married in 1670, died between 1694 and 1698
and that Joseph then married Mary Storrs and that she is
the "widow Mary" named in his 1717 Will and 1723 Inventory.
For a WikiTree account that states that Joseph Snow's wife Mary
was NOT the daughter of Richard & Mary (Yates) Higgins, see Mary (Unknown) Snow.
According to that research, Richard Higgins' daughter Mary
moved to New Jersey in 1669 and married a William Looker there before 1675. She died in NJ.[5]
In the current state of research, these alternatives should be mentioned here
but unless and until credible sources are found, they remain unproven.
The "majority" story is that Joseph Snow married a young "Mary Higgins"
in 1670 and they had 11 children.
She died after his January 1723 passing, being named an
Executor of his will with their son, Josiah Snow.[6] Note from Anonymous: [Oldest son] Joseph Snow: "It is possible Joseph could be the child of the first wife, _____ (Unk) Rogers."

Hannah had a sister, Mary Storrs, b. 12/31/1667, who seems not to have married.
