The Jicarilla Apache agreed to settle on a reservation in 1851, but unratified treaties and local politics hampered the process of obtaining a reservation for 36 years. Beginning in the mid-1850s, following the westward expansion of the U.S. and its impact on their livelihoods, attempts began to relocate the Jicarilla Apache, who became increasingly hostile to these pressures. In addition, relations with the Spanish also became hostile when they captured and sold Apache tribal members into slavery. After years of warfare, broken treaties, relocation, and being the only southwestern tribe without a reservation, the Jicarilla Llanero and Ollero bands united in 1873. They sent a delegation to Washington, D.C., to request a reservation. Eventually, U.S. President Grover Cleveland created the Jicarilla Apache Reservation through an executive order signed on February 11, 1887. which was expanded in 1907 to include more suitable land for ranching and agriculture.

Biography:
Lula was born c. 1902 to parents Christian Vicenti and his 1st wife Na-Mae. She was probalby bornon the Jicarella Apache Indian Reservation, Territory of New Mexico. Lulu was married (or partnered) three tiimes and had children by all three husbands, first to George Largo, second to Thomas Seeking Callado, and finally to Oglala Hall (the orphan). She had five (5) children, three died prematurley. All of her husbands died shortly after marriage George divorced in 1925, Thomas died in 1926, Oglala died on February 5, 1931, after which, and for her full time in the asylums, she was a widow.

According to Carla Joinson (who Incorrectly identifies her as Lulu L. Vincent Hall (correctly it is Lulu L. Vincinti (Hall)). in her book Vanished in Hiawatha, she was admitted to the Canton Asylum on May 29, 1932 and diagnosed with chronic melancholia, which was revised to dementia praecox. (One type of depression is sometimes known as melancholia, or melancholic depression. Melancholic depression is usually severe. Most people with melancholic depression experience 'slowing down' of their speech, thoughts and movements, together with a complete loss of enjoyment in their usual activities. Dementia praecox, invented as a diagnostic concept by Emil Kraepeling in 1896 for what is now called schizophrenia, is described as “a peculiar destruction of the inner cohesiveness of the … personality with predominant damage to the emotional life and the will”)

On December 22, 1933, when the Canton Asylum was closed, Lulu was transferred to st. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington D.C. as Hall, Lulu L.V. and there is a legacy entry in FamilySearch that indicatesher date of death as May 10, 1942.

Her profile is part of the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Canton_Asylum.

Reseearch Notes:
-The 1930 Federal census of Dulce has numerous erros as to relationships with Head, need sceondary confirmation...
-The surname shown in later census rolls of Vincenti Largo Callado is based on husband Vincenti and two unmarried partners who were fathers of children Largo and Collado. Both Largo and Collado had large family contingents on teh Dulce Reservation as early as 1900
-In the 1904 Jun 30 census of the Jicarella Apache there is a Koneh Quintana aka Wood Hall age 27, as well as three other Quiintana families, relationship of mother-in-law? Quintana can be seen as given names also. Also 9 Vicenti families
-The Hall and Vicenti families were intertqined by marriage across numerous generations
-The June 30, 1915 census of the Jicarilla Apache provides the best vies of the essentially closed nation and the interrelations of the families seen in the branch for Lula
-ODD, beginning in the 1920 census with her marriage to George Largo, her date of birth changes from 1903 to 1893. This continued in 1921, 1922, and 1923. In 1924 it chages back to 1903.
