About María Mayor Guillén de Guzmán, señora de Alcocer
Mayor Guillén de Guzmán ( ?, 1205 - Alcocer ,1262 ).
Born into one of the level two "richmen" families of King Ferdinand III's court, she was the daughter of Guillén Pérez de Guzmán, and sister of Pedro de Guzmán, Castile's first adelantado and father of Alonso Pérez de Guzmán.
She was mentioned in chronicles and documents of the time mainly for being the lover of prince Alfonso de Castilla, future king Alfonso X of Castile, son of Ferdinand III of Castile and Beatriz de Suabia.
From her relation with prince Alfonso she had three children[citation needed]:
- Beatrice (1242 - 1303), married to Alfonso III of Portugal and mother of Denis I of Portugal;
- Martín Alfonso de Castilla (? - ?), abbot in Valladolid
- Urraca (? - ?).
She died on 4 October 1262. Her body was buried in the monastery of the Order of Poor Ladies of San Miguel del Monte. After moving to Alcocer, her body was moved as well, and it curiously remained intact until the beginning othe 21st century. In 1936, it disapeared together with a polycromated wooden statue, considered among he best funerary art from the Middle Ages in Guadalajara[citation needed].

Beatrice of Castile was an illegitimate daughter of Alfonso X of Castile and Maria de Guzman.

Guillen & his wife had three children:
c) MARÍA [Mayor] Guillén de Guzmán ([1225]-Alcocer before 1267, bur Alcocer, monastery of Santa Clara). The Nobiliario of Pedro Conde de Barcelos names "D. Pedro Nuñez de Guzman, D. Maria Guillen de Guzman" as the children of "D. Guillen Perez de Guzman" and his wife "D. Elvira Rodriguez"[1244]. Señora de Alcocer, Salmerón, Viana and Azañón. The Crónica del Rey Don Alfonso X names "doña Mayor Guillen…fija de don Pedro Guzman" as mother of King Alfonso X´s daughter "doña Beatriz, que fué casada con el rey don Alfonso de Portugal"[1245]. Mistress: ([1243/48]) of Infante don ALFONSO de Castilla y León, son of FERNANDO III "el Santo" King of Castile and León & his first wife Elisabeth von Hohenstaufen (Toledo 23 Nov 1221-Seville 4 Apr 1284, bur Seville, Cathedral Santa María). He succeeded his father in 1252 as ALFONSO X "el Sabio" King of Castile.
