Margaret Campbell was the great-great-great-grandmother of 45th United States President Donald J. Trump.

Margaret Campbell was from Harris, Inverness-shire, Scotland and was born about 1780. She was the daughter of Roderick Campbell and Christina Maclennan, of Harris. Margaret was married to Angus MacSween, also of Harris and they had five children, John, Henrietta, Roderick, Donald and Christina.

Residences:

Angus MacSween and his family are recorded on a list of subtenants of Seaforth Head, Parish of Lochs in 1820. They were settled at 1 Seaforth Head. In the 1820s, the village was cleared to add to the sheep farm of Pairc/Park and the Macsweens were evicted and moved to a croft in the village of Tong, Civil Parish of Stornoway.

Death:

Margaret died at Tong on 23 May 1858 and is recorded as a Widow. Her husband Angus must have died sometime earlier.

Margaret is buried at the Sandwick Cemetery, near Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland.

Angus MacSween was married to Margaret Campbell (1776-1858). Margaret ni'n Ruairidh, was the daughter of Roderick Campbell of Harris. Margaret had been living at Buanish (Buthainas), Parish of Lochs, Ross-shire, Scotland prior to her marriage. By 1820 Angus and his family were recorded as living at 1 Seaforth, Parish of Lochs, Ross-shire. In 1826 Angus MacSween and his family were removed from 1 Seaforth to a croft in Tong (Tunga), Parish of Stornoway, Ross-shire.

Their children:

• John 1804-1888 was married to Isabella Ross and they lived at 12 Cromore (Cro Mor), Parish of Lochs. John's second wife was Mary Carmichael of 18 Gravir (Grabhair), Parish of Lochs.
• Roderick 1815-1897 married Lilias MacIver of 3 Steinish (Steinis), Parish of Stornoway. They settled at 8 Steinish (Steinis).
• Donald 1816-? married Kirsty Campbell who was living at 14 Tong (Tunga), Parish of Stornoway. It is thought that [possibly] Donald later emigrated to America.
• Kirsty 1826-1897 did not marry. She settled in the town of Stornoway (Steornabhagh).
• Effie [Henrietta] married Duncan Smith who was living at 1 Gearraidh Ghuirm, Parish of Lochs. They settled at 5 Tong (Tunga). [Angus MacSween came from Harris prior to being removed to Seaforth, also called Seaforth Head, Parish of Lochs.]

Sources for Angus McQueen/MacSween (LH1W-P15)?

Hi.

I am related to the Macsweens and Campbells of the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. Briefly, I don’t think that the Angus McQueen/MacSween (LH1W-P15) who is said to be born on the Isle of Skye and the son of Alexander McQueen (LH9H-986) and Margaret Martin (97VF-CMQ), is the same person who married Margaret Campbell (LH1W-599) and had John, Henrietta, Roderick, Donald and Christina. At least, there doesn’t seem to be any sources.

Please let me know if you can prove a link. Otherwise, I will go ahead and try and unlink the family of Angus McQueen/MacSween (LH1W-P15) from the family of Margaret (née Campbell) Macsween (LH1W-599). To put it more clearly, I’m saying Margaret (LH1W-599) married a different man called Angus Macsween, (not LH1W-P15) and they are the parents of John, Henrietta, Roderick, Donald and Christina.

He married Margaret Campbell, and they had five children. By 1820 he is listed as a subtenant at Seaforth Head and the family were settled at 1 Seaforth Head. In 1826 the family moved to 16 Tong. In due course this passed to his son, Donald. Children: John, Henrietta, Roderick, Donald and Christina.
