Neither the parents of Jean Cote or Anne Martin are known I have this note in my FTM.
Forum: The Genealogy Section: Canadian Genealogy Subj: COTE/MARTIN
Those who are writing that Anne Martin married with Jean Cote was the daughter of Abraham have no proof of it - It is the same for those who are writing that Jean Cote was from Mortagne au Perche.
Leon Roy, a major historian published in the " Bulletin des Recherches Historiques ", Vol. 49 ( 1943, pages 203-204 ) " Anne Martin, epouse de Jean Cote " or : why Anne Martin was not the daughter of Abraham.
Here is a short abstract of Leon Roy's publication :
Anne Martin and Marguerite Langlois ( Abraham's known wife ) were of the same age, may be 3 or 4 years difference.
Results of the study of Miss Jeanne Desilets of the Archives of the Province of Quebec prove that Anne was not the daughter of Abraham Martin.
There is no mention of Anne Martin before 1635. She probably arrived at the same time than Jean Cote.
The witnesses at the marriage of Anne Martin and Jean Cote were Robert Giffard and Guillaume Couillard : Abraham should had been there if Anne was his daughter.
Anne Martin and Jean Cote were never presents or mentioned at the marriage contracts of Abraham's daughters or at any contract concerning Abraham Martin..
At the inventory after death of Abraham Martin ( Notary Duquet, october 7, 1664 ) the heritage was for half to Marguerite Langlois and for the other half to their six children. No mention of Anne Martin marr. with Jean Cote
Marguerite Langlois, widow of Abraham Martin married Rene Branche, feb. 17, 1665 and was buried 10 months later. In a contract between the heirs and Rene Branche, at Notary Becquet, april 22nd 1666, there is no mention of Anne Martin .
My conclusion, is that If those evidences do not satisfied the most sceptics, it is difficult to understand how some authors may write without any proof or evidence that Anne Martin was the daughter of Abraham.
Anne's father, Abraham Martin, originally owned the vast plains of Abraham. (accoring to Lloyd Cote's records...looking to verify).
