Markwart IV of Eppenstein (* 1010 / 20, died 1076 ) was Count in Viehbachgau 1039 Count in Carinthia , 1070 Margrave of Istria and Carniola (questionable :) Duke of Carinthia from 1073 to 1076.

He was the eldest son of the Duke Adalbero of Carinthia (died 1039) from the house of Eppensteiner and Beatrice of Swabia , daughter of Duke Hermann II

1039 , after the death of Emperor Conrad II , got the Eppensteiner of King Henry III. In 1035 confiscated all own goods back and Mark was waiting IV as Count in Carinthia Carinthia, the actual ruler. It was in 1070 Margrave of Istria - Krain , moved in 1072 to King Henry IV against Hungary and was reversible upon cessation of Zähringerplatz Duke Berthold end of 1072 Duke of Carinthia. Markwart and his wife, according to a Liutbirg pins in St. Lambrecht continuing tradition in the Church of St. Martin in Greut (Greith), east of Neumarkt, buried. There Liutbirg would have caused a nunnery.

Marriage: Markwart was from 1045/50 married to Liutbirg, daughter of Count II of Liutold Plain, died before 1103.
