About Martin Sheen
Wikipedia: English
Martin Sheen is an American actor known for his performances as Kit Carruthers in Terrence Malick’s Badlands and Captain Willard in Francis Coppola’s Vietnam War epic Apocalypse Now. He’s also known for playing Robert E. Lee in the film Gettysburg, President Josiah Bartlet in the television series The West Wing, and as the voice of The Illusive Man in the video game Mass Effect 2. He has worked with some of cinema's prominent directors, including Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Oliver Stone, Francis Ford Coppola, Richard Attenborough, Terrence Malick and Mike Nichols. With the critical acclaim he has received as an actor, Sheen has become known as an activist. Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, United States, to Irish and Spanish parents, Sheen is also an Irish citizen.
He was born Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez on August 3, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Mary Ann (née Phelan, 1903–1951) and Francisco Estévez (1898–1974), who was a factory worker/machinery inspector at the National Cash Register Company at the time. Both parents were immigrants; his mother was born in Borrisokane, County Tipperary, Ireland and his father in Parderrubias, Galicia, Spain. After moving to Dayton, Estévez worked for several decades for the National Cash Register Company. Sheen grew up on Brown Street in the South Park neighborhood, one of 10 siblings (nine boys and one girl). He attended Chaminade High School (now Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School) and was raised Roman Catholic. Sheen eventually adopted his stage name in honor of the Catholic archbishop and theologian, Fulton J. Sheen. He is the father of actors Emilio Estevez, Ramón Estevez, Carlos Erwin Estevez (Charlie Sheen), and Renée Estevez, and is the brother of Joe Estevez, also an actor.
