About Matilda / Maud de Hunstanton
Matilda was the heiress of Hunstanton. She is also referred to in some sources as Maud de Hunstanton. When she married Roland Le Strange (Rolleus Extraneus), the estate then passed into the Le Strange family and name. This established the Le Strange family in Norfolk.
Dates for this couple given by the Hunstanton Le Strange Family Website are earlier than those reported by the Hart-Corbet-Le Strange genealogy and background information. No birth or death dates are given for Matilda, but the marriage date is 1112, compared with 1141 given by the Hart Family Website.
A couple of sources have Maud as the wife of John Le Strange I, but the weight of facts and dominance of sources seem to indicate that Maud/Matilda was the mother of John I and the husband of his father Roel.
He [Roald Lestrange] married Maud, daughter of Ralph, son of HERLEWIN, or DE HUNSTANTON, by Helewise, daughter of Hugh DE PLAIZ, of Bernham, Suffolk. He died before, and probably some time before, 1158. [Complete Peerage XII/1:347-8, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
