George Barstow was born June 12, 1653, the son of George Barstow and Susan Merritt, in Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts[1] [2] [3]. He was named in his father's will, and a guardian appointed[4] [2]

By 1684, he was married to Mercy [5], or Mary[6].

Some sources give her as Mercy Clark, the eldest child of James Clark of Boston, born 2 November[2] [7]. This seems to be related to a relative's will noted in the Gary Genealogy, which refers to the girls noted below as cousins on page 37[8].

Other sources show her as Mercy Woodward, as indicated in the Wikitree profile.

Their children included:

  1. Susanna, born November 2, 1684[9][5], who married Roger Stayner[2]
  2. George, born 1687, who married Martha Mason[10]. He was the executor of his father's will, noted below, and he died himself in 1733[11]
  3. Martha, born 1690[12] [5], who married Thomas Read[13] [2]
  4. William, born Jan 10, 1692[14], who married Elizabeth Walker[15] [5]
  5. Mary, born November 1, 1695[16] [5] [2], who married Thomas Carpenter[17]
  6. Margaret, born July 10, 1702[18] [2], who married Nathaniel Field
  7. Samuel, born May 1, 1705[19]
  8. James, baptized May 6, 1705[20]

George Bairstow Senior died April 6, 1826 in Scituate[21] [22]
