https://the-melungeons.blogspot.com/2018/04/chippoakes-creek-famili... Gibson Gibson's dad Thomas is probably the Thomas Gibson buried with him. Edmund Howell and Thomas Gibson both fought in Bacon's Rebellion in 1676. [If so, likely out of duress, given the historical perpective]. Edmund Howell was Gibson Gibson's godfather, as stated in Edmund'swill. Edmund also states that Gibson Gibson is the son of Thomas Gibson. Howell was from Surry County, VA (was south of the James River and was originally part of Jamestown, as well). Howell gave a deposition, shortly after Bacon's Rebellion, stating that Thomas Gibson (I assume this is Gibson Gibson' father) was about 30 years of age, being born in the mid 1640's;

  • "I believe may have been born in the mid 1630's as there is a death date (unverified) for Francis Gibson of 1636" * Vols. 1-5 of The County Court Notebooks, by Mrs. Milnor Ljundstedt, 1924. " I believe Francis may have been Gibson Gibson's grandfather and he may have had an Indian consort/wife. I do know that Gibson Gibson's son, Gilbert Gibson, had several children who were of mixed race, one being George Gibson, my ggggg grandfather, who was largely Indian. Attached is a photo of George's grandson, David Gibson (my ggg grandfather) - you can see he's very Indian and African. HIs wife (Mary "Polly" Ratliff, looks very Indian, as well. I believe she may be descended from Richard Ratliff of Nanesemond or near there. Two of his daughters married two of the Jordan boys (Jordan's Journey) inthe 1670's or so, these girls were or became Quakers. We have Quaker connections in my Gibson family, but, they are murky at the moment. We have several connections to the Lightfoot family of Charles City Co. I believe Gibson Gibson was married to Frances Lightfoot, sister of Col. Philip Lightfoot. HIs wife's name was Fran, per his will and his grandson was LIghtfoot Smith and then there were several Lightfoot Gibson descendants. I know my family, for a fact, used surnames as first names because we were related maternally to these famiilies, such as Eustic/Eustace, Poe, Thornton, Osborne, etc.

Re Sandy Point, VA graveyard, there are no dates on these three Gibson men's tombstones (per 1896 College of William and Mary Quarterly discussing local cemeteries and early settlers buried there). . This may be because they simply have sank/subsided into the swampy soil in the area. I plan on looking for them this June.

I would be very interested in any information anyone would have on Francis Gibbs/Gibson. I find it curious that Francis Gibbs/Gibson ends up settling in Westover Parish, the area where Lt. John Gibbs was before the Massacre. I wonder if they were brothers. But, I also wonder why we have no DNA matching from the Gibbs Family DNA Project and the Gibson Family DNA Project. We have no men with the last name of Gibbs for a match. We have many Collins and a few other names, like Justice, but, no Gibbs (our Gibson men were promiscous, but, that appears to have been theculture in 17th and 18th centuries Virginia:
