Moses is the grandfather of the American artist William Merritt Chase who painted the portrait of Moses.
Moses' daughter Sarah Sarah A. Chase is the artists' mother and Merritt painted her portrait as well.
Both portraits are owned by the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
