Nathaniel married Mercy MAYO on 26 May 1707 in Harwich, MA. Mercy was born on 23 Apr 1688 in Hingham, MA. She died after 25 Mar 1765 in prob. Harwich, MA.

Nathaniel Hopkins is the great grandson of Stephen Hopkins and grandson of Giles Hopkins, both of whom were passengers on the Mayflower. Giles' son Stephen, married Mary Merrick 05/22/1667 in Eastham, MA. They had nine children, the 6th being Nathaniel, born in March of 1684.
On May 26, 1707 in Harwich MA he married Mercy Mayo, daughter of John Mayo (1656-1726) and Hannah Freeman (1664-1744). They had 10 children. Nathaniel was a blacksmith by trade. He apparently was a pleasant jovial man, as his gravestone displays a winged head with a rare chubby, smiling face. It is carved in the style of William Coye of Plymouth. His marker reads:

On the day Nathaniel died he was 81 years old, and Ætatis suæ (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of his Age) 82, meaning he was born AFTER Sept. 13, 1684. This further indicates that his recorded birth in the Orleans, Mass. vital records as "March 1684" in the old Julian calendar was actually Mar. 1684/5 in the modern calendar.
