comments
Many have confused Owen Sullivant and Margaret Hewlett , his wife , with Owen's father , Owen who was married to Elizabeth Claiborne and also , to Mary Ruth Pleasants . This has led to them assuming that Mary Sullivant (who married James Mullins)was the DAUGHTER instead of the Half -SISTER of Owen (husband of Margaret Hewlett).

NOTE: all the Internet-posted databases attempt to make Owen's death in 1769 -- per the information in the will, and putting the names of the children with the known dates of their birth, marriage and death, it is obvious that the will is that of Owen Sullivant II

In 1660 before Sullivans came to Virginia , the penal laws instituted by English in Ireland required the Irish to anglesize their names by dropping the "o", "Mc" and "Mac". Owen was a planter. He was granted 240 ac. on 11/7/1700 at "Dam Neck" in Princess Ann co. , and 862 ac. in 9/10/1755 on both sides of Twitty's creek, Luenburg. He made a will 10/12/1768 that was proved 2/6/1769 in Charlotte co. Virginia. He married at least two times. 1693 he married Elizabeth Claiborn (1678-1697), and in 1715 he married Mary Ruth Pleasants (1680-1769)
