k. In 1204, with his father and brother, he was excluded by the King of France from the terms of the pacification in Normandy. In Nov 1213, King John ordered that the manors of Saham and Ryhcot be restored to him. Presumably he supported King John in the civil war, as in Apr 1216, that King granted him the lands which had been held by Richard de Montfitchet, in Essex, Bucks, Cambridge, Norfolk, Suffolk and Hunts. But soon afterwards, Ralph must have joined the rebellious barons, for John ordered in Jul that Robert de Mortimer be given siezin of the land of Abberley, held by Ralph, and on 5 Sep following, the King gave the manor of Flamstead to Waleran Tyes. Upon Henry III's accession to the throne, Ralph was granted the manor of Newport, Essex Jun 1218, and in Sep 1233 he was given the custody of Maud Castle in radnor. Later that year he and John de Monmouth were appointed generals of the oitevin mercenaries in the Welsh marches against the Earl of Pembroke and Llewelyn. In 1239, he took the Cross and set out for the Holy Land. He married, between Nov 1232 and 1234, Pernel, daughter of Walter de Lacy. He died at sea, and his widow married bef 15 Oct 1256, William de St. Omer. She was still living 25 Nov 1288.

Origins

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_de_Lacy,_Lord_of_Meath

Walter de Lacy (c. 1172 – 1241) was lord of Meath in Ireland. He was also a substantial land owner in Weobley, Herefordshire, in Ludlow, Shropshire, in Ewyas Lacy in the Welsh Marches, and several lands in Normandy.[1] He was the eldest son of Hugh de Lacy, a leading Cambro-Norman baron in the Norman invasion of Ireland, and Rohese of Monmouth.

He married Margaret de Braose, the daughter of William de Braose, 4th Lord of Bramber and Maud de St. Valery and had issue.

  1. Pernel de Lacy (c. 1201 – after 25 November 1288), married Sir Ralph VI de Toeni, Lord of Flamstead, son of Sir Roger IV de Toeni, Lord of Flamstead and Constance de Beaumont.
  2. Egidia de Lacy (also called Gille) who married Richard Mór de Burgh, Lord of Connaught and Strathearn. Together they had many notable descendants, including David II of Scotland, the Earls of Clanricarde, Jane Seymour, Margaret de Clare, the Earls of Ormond, English kings Edward IV and Richard III, and many other British monarchs.
  3. Gilbert de Lacy of Ewyas Harold, Herefordshire was taken hostage for his father in August 1215. He predeceased his father before 25 December 1230. Gilbert married Isabel Bigod, daughter of Sir Hugh Bigod, 3rd Earl of Norfolk (Magna Carta surety) and Maud Marshal. They had a son and two daughters ...

"At the time of his death in early 1241, apparently before 28 February, Walter de Lacy was blind and feeble, bankrupt, and without male heirs. His only son, Gilbert, who married Isabella, daughter of Ralph Bigod, died in 1234, leaving a son, Walter, and two daughters, Matilda and Margaret. This Walter was alive in 1238, and married a daughter of Theobald Butler (d. 1205), but predeceased his grandfather without heirs. Henry III took this opportunity to dispense patronage by arranging the marriages of the Lacy sisters, now coheirs of the Lacy estates, to noted royal servants. Margaret married John de Verdon, and Matilda married Pierre de Genevre and afterwards Geoffrey de Geneville." [18]
