Notes: In 1435, King Henry VI, presented John Browne, clerk, to Malpas Church by reason of the minority of the son and heir of Sir William Brereton, Kt.
In Jun 1474, William, jointly with Robert Brereton, rector of Brereton, made over to the bishop and dean of Winchester, and to their heirs and assigns for ever, all his possessions in Lincolnshire; William was the cousin of William Wainflete, bishop of Winchester, who was the son of father's sister, Margery.[4]
In 1484, at Chester, Thomas Fyton of Pownall, William Davenport of Broomhall, and Edward Fyton, esquires, gave to William Brereton, knight, and Dame Maud his wife, a bond for observance of covenants on the marriage of the said Thomas with Elizabeth daughter of the said Dame Maud.

Sir William de Brerton VIII., tenth Lord of Brereton, succeeded his grandfather ; died in 1485. His first wife was Matilda, daughter of John Dutton, of Button, widow of Sir William Booth, of Dunham; married in 1478. By her he had six sons: 1, William, died issueless ; 2, Andrew ; 3, Robert ; 4, Roger ; 5, Henry ; 6, Matthew. William married Katherine, daughter of Sir John Byron, of Horestan Castle, Derbyshire ; his second brother. Sir Andrew, succeeded his father as eleventh Lord of Brereton. His second wife was a daughter of Sir Hugh Hulse, of Elwood Hall, Cheshire. By her he had two sons and four daughters: 1. Sir John Brereton, of Lea Hall, whose first wife was Katherine, daughter of Maurice Berkeley, of Beverstone, Gloucester, widow of John, Lord Stourton. By her he had one daughter, Wyburgha, heir of her mother ; she married Sir William Compton, knight.
