About Pte. William Lindsay
William Lindsay was born at Hamilton's Land in Overtown, Lanarkshire, Scotland on 18 March 1877. His parents were William Lindsay and Martha Lindsay (nee Kyle) who had married at Cambusnethan on 3 June 1862. Martha died on 1 December 1914 and was buried in the Green Island Cemetery. William worked as a wool sorter before he served with the Otago Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion (Service No. WWI 58892) during World War I. Both his brother Alexander and sister Emily (Emilia) are mentioned in his Military Personnel File. William was killed in action at Ypres on 13 January 1918. 43-year-old William was buried in the La Brique Military Cemetery No. 2 [I. E. 10]. Bio by Debbie McCauley (19 December 2024).
