On 7 Dec 1762 (probably in the New Castle County, Delaware) William married Jane Jones. The couple had 13 children, some born in New Castle County, Delaware the later ones in Washngton County, Pennsylvania.
The children's names were: 1. Enoch, 2. Levi, 3. Catherine, 4. John, 5. James, 6. Isaac, 7. Susannah, 8. Hannah, 9. Esther, 10. Lydia, 11. William, 12. Jesse, 13. Jane
About 1779 the family moved to Washington County, Pennsylvania where William was a farmer.
During the Revolutionary War William served in the Pennsylvania Militia and was a Frontier Ranger.
William must have passed on the pioneer spirt to his children. For all of his children moved west (Ohio, Indiana & Illinois) except his son William and daughter Jane (Kelly).
William established the Buckingham Cemetery in Washington County where he and his family are buried. The cemetery is on part of William's original "Servis Plane" land patent of 367 acres.
William and his brother John (buried in the Franklin Cemetery west of this cemetery) were the patriarchs of the Buckinghams in SW PA. Their ancestoral roots go back to William Buckingham who came from England to Chester Co, PA in 1682.
Note, William's son Isaac in 1832 moved to Woodford County, Illinois where Isaac establish a Buckingham cemetery. Today you can see the similarities between both cemeteries. They are set back off of the road, well laid out, maintained nicely and still active in 2006.
