from existing sources, the prior generation appears to be the one where Levin surname is used; was adopted for official purposes and is not generally found on gravestones of the family; may have been selected to honor name of Leyb (i.e. Lev). The source document, https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000192239631878, does not mention the surname Levin anywhere in this lineage. The surname may have been used by certain branches, starting in around 1810, but the surname should not be applied to earlier generations unless some source shows use in those times. (11 OCT 2024)
