About Rabbi Salomon ben Mordechai Gompel Emmerich

ou Emmerich-Gomperz ou Gomperz

b. ~1550, d. ~1620

Emmerich is a small town in northwestern Germany, located on the Rhine, not far from the Dutch border

It was in 1600 that Duke Jean Guillaume de Clèves allowed Jews to settle in Emmerich, in this case the family of Solomon. This residence permit for Salomon was renewed on November 22, 1610 by the margrave Ernest of Brandenburg, who succeeded his uncle Jean Guillaume, who died childless.

Salomon, son of Mordechai Gumpel, is the ancestor of the EMMERICH / GOMPERZ family
