Physician in Orlëans. Cured Count Etampes of gout.
Flourished about 1360-1370. He probably lived in Erfurt during the French expulsion of Jews between 1322 1359.
(from Ma'alot HaYochasin).
There is an oral tradition that Rashi's son-in-law adopted the surname of Lurie from the Hebrew phrase "Le-Or-Yah" (by G-d's light). Jewish genealogists have recognized the Lurie (or Luria) family as having traced its genealogy back to the 10th century B.C.
"The Lurie Legacy", Neil Rosenstein.
According to others the surname "Luria", maybe originated from settling in the town of Loria west of Bassano in the Vicensa district in Italy.
