Sir Ralph ll de Vernon, Baron Vernon of Shipbrook, “the old liver” was born about 1251 in Shipbrook, Northwich, Cheshire, England, or circa 1241-1251 or 1246, and died there about 1334.
His father was Ralph De Vernon, Rector of Hanwell, and his mother was Cecilia Crew.
He married Mary Dacre, daughter of Ranulph Dacre and Joan de Lucy. After her death, he took Maude de Grosvenor as his paramour.
Warine Vernon, elder son of the 4th Baron, had no male heir and his extensive estate was divided between his daughters and his brother Ralph, Rector of Hanwell. Ralph's son, also Ralph b 1241, was reputed to have lived so long he earned the soubriquet The Old Liver. His heir was Sir Richard, son of his second marriage to Matilda Grosvenor of Kinderton, Cheshire. The Barony expired when his grandson Sir Richard, was captured after the Battle of Shrewsbury in 1403 and executed for treason.[1]

Became the seventh Baron and perhaps the most fantastic of all Vernons. According to all official English records, he lived until 1392, aged 150 years. If this fact bears out, he may well have been the oldest 'liver' in recorded history, until a few years ago when the Russians came up with a man 162 years old. Married twice and outlived most of his many great-grandchildren. He also added the 'maiden proper' on the crest of the coat-of-arms, holding a scythe in her hand and sheaves of wheat in her arm. In 1403 his grandson by his youngest son, Sir Richard the 8th Baron, was beheaded following the Battle of Shrewsbury (he was the Sir Richard Vernon made famous by Shakespeare in one of his plays), the baronage then fell to Sir Ralph 'the Younger' of Hanwell, a great-grandson of 'The Old Liver's oldest son, Sir Ralph. He died without male issue and, in 1404, it went to Sir James of Lostock and Haslington, who became the 10th Baron.

(Ormerod) Named as Baron of Shipbrook in 1288, he succeeded to his father's interests in the barony by grants from his father and sister. He survived to the age of 150 years [levied a fine in 1326]. Called "Old Sir Ralph", or "Sir ;;;[?], he added 3 garbs to the fesse (coat of arms).
