│ [Edit] Biography
Raoul VIII de Beaumont-au-Maine had replaced his father in 1197, since it explicitly takes this title in an exchange between Étival-in-Charnie and Robert Chemillé. He initially favored Arthur, Duke of Brittany, son of Geoffrey II of Bretagne, Duke of Brittany, against John Lackland, her uncle, like other lords Mans, then, as the majority, made his peace with King of England, endorsed by him Juhel III de Mayenne in October 1201, had a letter assuring the king that he received for his liege, he never thought nor evil nor spoken ill of him, and that if he had done something wrong, he pledged to fix the estimate of the Earl of Lancaster, of Pierre de Preaux and Guerin Glapion Raoul asks himself the same day the king not to believe those who have served with him and accept his services. But soon things change front. Arthur and Philippe-Auguste, his ally, begin the fight against King John, ensure ownership of Domfront and Passais Norman Raoul de Beaumont, who provided and especially after the murder of Arthur by his uncle remains always the ally of the king of France, but taking as much as possible away from battles and wars. MA Bertrand Broussillon said that loyalty earned him the lease of the young Guyonnet de Laval, preferably with Guy de Thouars, brother of Guy VI de Laval. If the lease was up soon after the death of Guyonnet in 1201, should be attributed to the initiative of John Lackland, rather than to Philip Augustus, who would only have to maintain it. Raoul kept in all cases until the majority of Emma de Laval, sister Guyonnet and still led the army of Laval at the battle of Bovines, 1214. In this circumstance, he had renewed his family donated the abbey of La Couture, of Étival and of Evron. The Cartulary of Perseigne appointed by Richard error in two acts by Robert d'Alencon, 1214 - 1215. At the time of the conquest of Normandy by Philip Augustus, Viscount of Maine put his hands Domfront, and the king arranged several times for his supporters. Raoul did homage to the king in 1210, and all his other lands. In 1216, he renewed the king's loyalty oaths and gave his son Richard hostage, promising to make its open spaces, presumably when he departed for the conquest of the England with Prince Louis. This expedition, blamed by the pope, drew upon him the excommunication. He returned to France ill will absolve him, vowed, if healing, leaving for the Holy Land, actually sailed with the Germans and Czechs, with Raoul, son of the Earl of Chester, the Count of Nevers Olivier, son of the King of England, the earls of Marche and Bar, was the siege of Damietta and fell into the hands of the infidels in 1219. Raoul returned to France in 1222 - 1223, confirmed his alms. About to go with Louis VIII against the Albigenses, he had to buy 300 pounds by the prior of Vivoin servitude of annual stay at the Priory for its bloodletting, and the more expensive "ammunition" when he, and his knights their wives came to take their antics in the establishment, three times daily for three days. That was in 1226. The same year he inherited a share, probably the head of his mother, Guillaume du Perche, bishop of Chalons, the last representative of the family Rotrou; attended as adjudicator in the tribute to King by Jeanne des Roches Lady Craon to the Seneschal of Anjou, in 1227, was among those who declared the downfall of Peter Mauclerc. In 1231, we see among those who complained to the pope and prelates encroachments on secular jurisdiction. His pious donations are innumerable. Consent of Lucie de l'Aigle, his mother, he gives Saint-Aubin d'Angers Chapel Raillou for the hi Richard, his father. We see achieving the proposed establishment of an anniversary for Richard, his older brother, and conclude with the chapter of Le Mans a case that the wars of the time had stopped running: the exchange against a pension of 110 soil the castle of Bourg-l'Eveque, said Bourg-le-Roi since his father was of Henry II of England and Richard-Heart of Lion. It gives the priory Vivoin obligation to provide a man to carry the pot when he went to war in 1205, the priory Torcé the right past, in 1212, the priory of the cards right to host with dogs and horses . To mark the centenary of the founding of Étival-in-Charnie by his grandfather, he founded his birthday at the abbey in 1209. Bilard wrongly attributes this deed to Richard Beaumont. William de Beaumont, bishop of Angers, still under British influence, urged his brother, on behalf of the nobility of his race, to respect the legacy of King Richard for the Abbey Melinais if vultis vestram nobilitatem and ab honorem infamia evitare (after 1209). He did not fail, despite its attachment to the French cause. We see Raoul give the abbey founded by the kings of England its rights to the Dormouse, the Poler at Port Chevache; to the abbey of Evron, an annuity on Sainte-Suzanne, at the abbey of La Couture, new benefits Praised; to Étival, 10 francs on Sainte-Suzanne and Beaumont. In the last years of his life, he effectively contributed to the founding of the Carthusian Park Orcas, since this gave effect to his niece, the Countess of Fiff, a district of Charnie and was confirmed by St. Louis the creation of this house, 1235, 1236. He favored the Friars Minor of Le Mans, approved the sale by the Cistercians of the Abbey Bellebranche the Carthusian Park venue of the savagery given by him. Main article: Park Charterhouse-in-Charnie. The year he died, he bestowed Hugues de Juillé law of justice in all its strongholds. He died on August 11 (1237), according to the obituary of Carthusians, and was buried in the abbey Étival-in-Charnie. Article: Abbey Étival-in-Charnie. Dom Villevieille assigns acts passed in 1238. Lucia, who is his mother, was given to his wife by Father Anselm. [Edit] Family
Raoul had to wife Agnes, whose name is mentioned anywhere, but often contained in the acts of her husband. She lived in 1226. Odola Pierre-Joseph-Desnos guess that's his head that Raoul de Beaumont possessed the lordship of the Arrow. It is the first of his family, in all cases, which bore the title, and as the King of England had previously the Arrow, we may believe that it is from them that he obtained this privilege. In these circumstances, the most likely assumption is that marriage, like that of Roscelin his grandfather, he may have procured this advantage. Agnes would be a natural daughter of one of the last three kings of England, Henry II of England, Richard or John Lackland, as the bride Roscelin was the daughter of Henry I of England. Children of Raoul and Agnes were: Richard II de Beaumont († September 17th 1242), who succeeded his father; Raoul de Beaumont, the youngest, but who lived in 1218 and perhaps later; William Beaumont († ~ 1241 - 1242), described by Knight in 1236, ratifying the gift of Ralph, his brother in the park Orcs, and another of the same chapter of Saint-Pierre-de-la-Cour, 1237. His name is mentioned in the title of a charter of 1238, copied to Gaignières. Agnes de Beaumont (b. ~ 1225 - February 12 x 1253 - † May 9 1301), Viscountess of Beaumont-au-Maine, Lady of La Fleche, Frenay, Sainte-Suzanne, Lude and Chateau-Gontier, who inherited all his brothers and married 12 February 1253 Louis de Brienne, son of Jean de Brienne, Prince of Jerusalem, became Viscount de Beaumont, Baron de Sainte Suzanne. The dynasty of Beaumont-au-Maine goes with it.
