About Rev Bennett Wood
A Patriot of the American Revolution for NORTH CAROLINA with the rank of PRIVATE. DAR Ancestor # A127733
As A teenager in North Carolina Bennett fought with Bacot's Division at the end of the American Revolution. He trained as a stone mason but he inherited wealth and was able to increase that throughout his life. Bennett's' descendants say that before he left North Carolina he finished building the state capitol building. It burned down in 1831 the year Bennett died. Bennett once said "God has given me much wealth, and since he has been so good to me, it is time I did something for Him". He studied and became a Baptist minister and he established churches wherever he lived and he baptized many Indians.
It was said that he was a good master a loving parent and a tender husband. The 1810 census showed that he owned 1280 acres of land and 21 slaves. See Nancy's bio. for more.
